i want that variable to have that value because that encoded
exchangetoken value keeps changing inside xml file so can't hardcode it in

you give it in pase, and then returns the standard out back to you.
If you want the command to be run to start like this:

Those are not the same two strings.
Also - You don't have USROPN on your UNIX file, so you aren't

Finally you are reading the result of the command into a variable
called record. The variable string1 isn't ever used in your program,
so it will never have a value.
