I found the service at the Gaylord to be "fair" but I would expect the service at a place that charges those rates to be way above fair. Also the $10/day "Resort Fee" was (IMO) ludicrous. Either give me the OJ or don't, but don't force it on me and then charge me for it. Same with the paper. I was aware that it was included in the "Resort Fee" but I think that the hotel confused everyone with the note on the bill that said that it could be refused. I would guess that the average hotel room in that area goes for less than $100, I saw a room at the Adam's Mark (Orlando Convention Center) for $85. A friend with a car was surprised to find (after checking in) that the Valet parking was $14/day. He told me that he had tried to unload himself but the valets would not let him. He removed the car from the valet lot the first day, but when he checked out they had billed him for his whole stay. Another friend had a problem with their room and had to wait over an hour for the front desk person to find a manager that could approve a move. I was eating a $12 hamburger at the pool bar for lunch one day during my stay and overheard the staff discussing how surprised they were to have gotten an 80% customer sat. rating for August; they had expected much lower. My biggest complaint was that there was no choice of hotel with this location. As much time as I spend in my room at COMMON I would be more than happy with a room at the good old Holiday Inn. It will be tough to increase the attendance at future COMMONs if the lodging costs more than the conference.... I don't know why so many others had problems. I found service to be pretty good. rick ---original message---------- That's good news, Leo! Ms. Taylor heard the squeaky wheel, and did the only right thing in resolving your issues. For all the complaints from others on the list this week about the customer service at Gaylord Palms, it sounds like the frontline support (front desk, onsite managers) still needs some work at customer service, though. There are four major butts: 1. I specifically asked to be put into a room close to the convention center, as did COMMON ask on my request, and the hotel put me into a room in Timbuktu. COMMON had me moved after the first night. 2. I also spoke to the "right" people, but when it came time to check out, I was told that my folio was closed, and the front desk person walked away from me. 3. The "high speed line" in my room didn't work most of the time, and wasn't high speed. 4. It was just plain expensive. Too expensive. And if you didn't have a rental car, you were screwed. In San Antonio, the restaurants in the hotel can't screw you, because you can walk to many reasonable restaurants on the river walk.
