Your problem is not s36 files to excel but as400 to excel

S/36 files transfer no problem to as400 once you figure out how on earth to 
do it 
We did a save S/36 to backup tape then used the same exact tape to do an 
OS/400 restore 36 which puts the S/36 files into OS/400 library with all S/36 
stuff intact.

There are hundreds of inexpensive packages to get AS/400 data to any PC 
application you are interested in.
