You can transfer files in excel but you must go through a couple of steps. First
open the file (be sure to click all files in excel to find it). Then a pop-up
screen for importing will appear. I always pick the fixed format option. From
there you can click next and set the lines to where yout fields end. It is a
good idea to have the file layout ready first. Let me know if you have problems.
We have two "production sides" on our As/400. We have our old code that is S36
code and our new code in OS/400. We download from both into excel.

Subject: transfer of s36 files from as400 to excel

We have just completed a s36 to as400 migration. I cannot transfer the s36 files
from the AS400 to a spreadsheet as it reads each record as one field.

Has anybody managed to do this

Regards

Conor Farrell
