I believe that you have two issues here. 1) Retraining, and 2) Rehiring an
ex employee. Issue 2 is no big deal. We've had some employees leave and
return. Many of the returnees have been great and long term. A couple have
left. One, I feel that we put a round peg into a square hole when he returned.

I don't have a clue as to how to help you train - because I don't know what
position you are planning on using her for. We have hired analysts that never
coded. Them, we trained on the application. Told them where the ATS courses
were if they were interested - never were. But, for coding, I recommend the
ATS courses. An excellent manual, long out of print, is IBM's 'Application
development by Example'. This will take them through the rudiments of creating
an application, including: Physical files, logical files, source files,
display files, printer files, CL and RPG.

Subject: How to (re)train?

Hello:

We just had an offer from a one time collegue of us, to return to work with
us. Since we are,
as almost everyone else is, chronically short on personnel, we listened to
the offer and
are trying to decide what to do, that is, I have been told to come up with
an answer and/or
solution for Friday.

The Background:

We are a small consulting group, doing development, conversions, etc.etc....
This person worked with us until 6 years ago and she is (was) a really
first rate
System Analyst/Designer, exceptionally good on Customer Support and training.

She knew almost everything there was to know (at that time) on the Midrange
family.
Problem: she never worked with the AS series.
She is wiling to train (re-train?).

I would really appreciate your opinon, and what would you do in this situaton?

Thanks in advance

EndreE
