What's she been up to for the last six years? To me, the thing to
look for, since you already know her personality and work ethic, is
to establish how much catching up she needs. You said she was
(once) a midrange guru. How much of what she knew still applies to
the AS400. Probably more than a little.

Question 2: Who's providing the (re)training? In house, IBM,
consultant? This could have a huge impact on the situation. Is
someone on the staff going to have to babysit her for a few
weeks/months? That might be more of a disruption and detrimental to
     your business.......

Hello:

We just had an offer from a one time collegue of us, to return to work with
us. Since we are,
as almost everyone else is, chronically short on personnel, we listened to
the offer and
are trying to decide what to do, that is, I have been told to come up with
an answer and/or
solution for Friday.

The Background:

We are a small consulting group, doing development, conversions, etc.etc....
This person worked with us until 6 years ago and she is (was) a really
first rate
System Analyst/Designer, exceptionally good on Customer Support and training.

She knew almost everything there was to know (at that time) on the Midrange
family.
Problem: she never worked with the AS series.
She is wiling to train (re-train?).

I would really appreciate your opinon, and what would you do in this situaton?

Thanks in advance

EndreE
