Hi Keith, What are you using the printers for? Quite often, the printers can be replaced with departmental laser printers and you can send the reports directly to the departments - eliminating the operator intervention of printing and distributing. If you are doing special forms - such as purchase orders, invoices, etc. With the price of maintenance on the printers and the cost of pre-printed forms you should be able to easily justify an electronic forms solution. An e-Forms solution replaces your pre-printed forms by merging the spool files with an "electronic" version of the form and printing to laser printers on plain paper. You could even utilize those same laser printers you just put out into the departments. Here's the plug: I am from Momentum Utilities, the developer of the Mapics forms application JacanaForms. JacanaForms has been designed to implement quickly by provided templates over the Mapics special forms which can be easily customized to fit your needs. We have an ROI spreadsheet that may be worth filling in to help determine what savings you could achieve. If you are interested, please contact myself or your Mapics affiliate. In either case, impact printing can be expensive compared to the costs of todays laser printers. The contract is througth IBM. Is there any competition for these maintenance contracts? Are there any other companies that offer maintenance contracts on IBM printers in the Western PA area? My second question is: Do most of you have contracts on this type of equipment? The equipment we have is older but in good working condition. These maintenance contracts seem fairly expensive but cover both parts and labor. I am wondering if others feel these type of contracts are critical.
