My preference for DBeaver is actually two-fold. One, there is the plug-in
for RDi which is nice so that I don't need to leave the IDE if I don't want
to leave it for a "quick-hit" SQL while developing.

For me, more importantly, I use the desktop version (actually the Enterprise
paid version) all day long since I am attached to DB2 environments (Dev, QA,
Prod), Oracle schemas (Dev, QA, and Prod), and also MS SQL instances (3rd
party software data) throughout the day. This allows a single environment,
with multiple tabs open, to jump between any and all of these as necessary.
The versatility of the product, along with the functionality (which they
keep enhancing each release) makes it a must-have for me.

As for my reason for the Enterprise version, the one function that I love is
the ability to export directly to Excel (not to DIF or anything else). I
select the option and next I have an Excel spreadsheet open with my results.
Again, when I'm needing to produce something for a user, this a extremely
quick and easy. There are probably 10 other differences, but this one is a
daily use item for me.

It is a vastly improved tool Edmund but still a bit clumsy compared with
tools like DBeaver.

For example - every time I run an SQL script it pops another window for the
results. But, at least on the Mac version, there is no "Window" menu select
item - so if I move off to another app - or even just look at the results -
it can be a royal pain to get back to them. Imagine if RDi worked that way
rather than contained within a single workbench and you'll see what I mean.

Has anyone started playing with ACS Run Sql Scripts. It now has
code-assist since the December release for schemas, tables and columns

the DML statements and prompting for parameters and returned columns

procedures and functions. It is really taking off.

My 12 Microsoft co-workers in my department love DBeaver, because it
has
code-assist. Not as good as Microsoft of course.

I recommend installing it BY ITSELF. Do not install inside of RDI.

You sure Jason? - maybe DBeaver have removed the compatible version?
I installed and used it on the current RDi base for quite a while
until an incompatibility with another plugin screwed me up and I
hadn't the time or energy to resolve it.

You won't be able to install DBeaver in the version of Eclipse RDi
is
using. It's WAY too old at this point. What I do to run DBeaver is I
have the most current version of Eclipse installed, and then I
installed DBeaver into that. I try and putting any plugins into RDi,
unless they are written for RDi due to the older Eclipse version.
