Hi Vern,

Windows is super protective about the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, and you probably found that you needed to edit the eclipse.ini in your recent fix using an elevated privilege (run as administrator).

If you took the option to install somewhere other than Program Files then that extra file protection - and the related UAC (user acceptance) prompt - is not in your way.

The question came up a while ago when people were having issues with file handling and updates because of windows extra security. I don't believe those issues exist anymore, but some people (like me) enjoyed the lack of UAC prompts when editing files.

I would have to know your install history to answer that Vern.
The default if you don't customize is C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP

Personally, I have multiple copies, and I don't like Program Files since it uses additional security.
So I have my directory structure as
C:\IBM\SDPShared //for all shared plugins
C:\IBM\SDP_RDi90
C:\IBM\SDP_RDp851
C:\IBM\SDP_RDp85
.. etc

So during the install, I customize where it will put the package group.

Hi Edmund

Well, it's working - thanks much for your help.

I'd originally installed the jetty plugin in the wrong place - C:\IBM\SDP - once I put it into C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP, all is good - it's downloading the content now.

Was C:\IBM\SDP the installation directory for a different version? Or some other purpose? Just curious.

I'm guessing that the local server needs to contact that server to
download
the help, and it can't reach it. So let's try this again, once the
Information Center is back up.

Understood - but it's not Canada's Independence Day, right?

:)

So I'm guessing that if the outside server is down, we'll get the
message about the local server update, too?

Cheers

Hi Edmund

I tried the fix - I _think_ I got it in right, but I still don't get
the content downloaded - well, I am at home, had a proxy server set,
now went to "Direct" - same problem.

I disabled local - get this site in the unavailable list.

Hi Jim

Several products have had the same problem with the local help server.
If
you look in your workspace .metadata/.log file, chances are you will
see
this error:
!MESSAGE Jetty plugins are unavailable, could not start local server

Rational Software Architect already has a technote for this problem at:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21641599

I'm trying the fix and it appears to be working. The local help
server started and help plugins get downloaded. It will take a while
though because there's quite a bit of content.
After that, help is blazing fast, well worth it, in my opinion.

We will try to get this missing plugin problem resolved, but in the
meantime, please follow the instructions in that link.

Thanks Edmund,

Will that fix the issue I have with getting the local updater to work?
If
not, should I open a PMR? Call support?

Yes, the V9 version of the help seems to be down right now. I
wasted
a
whole bunch of time before realizing it. In Help Content, none of
my
V9
connections work, but if I create a new connection like what was in
8.5,
the help works again :

Maybe the remote V9 version of the help files aren't 100% ready for
prime
time yet. The addresses for the remote help in the Help Content
preferences aren't all working for me today, when I thought they
did
last
week. I was messing around, and now my local help content is gone
and
I'm
having issues similar to the rest of you.

Same error. I thought my corporate firewall was the culprit, and
it still might be. I'd love to see an FTP site with the help that
