I have been reading all of these threads with much interest. I began using
WDS and Visual Age for Java when IBM started down the path of MVC for
applications. Migrated to the various releases of WDSC/WDSCi.
Until Recently I was a consultant for an IBM Business Partner and help
clients learn to use WDSC, WebFacing, Host Publisher to HATS ..... to WDHT
and using JSPs and java to front end their RPG to a certain extent with J2EE
web applications with new applications being done with Java, JSPs with the
i5 backend database.
Trying to follow IBM's Roadmap.

I have embraced WDSC and many of it's perspectives and have helped others
embrace it. One client called me up after a training session and said: "I
have unplugged my 5250 terminal!"
I had a client say one time that they were looking for a Java Development
tool for their programers. I asked them if they could compile an RPG
program. After responding yes I said you need to look no further you
already have one....let's find and dust off those WDSC CDs.

We have had a wonderful tool for many years in WDSC/WDSci.
I left consulting about a year ago to work full time for one of my clients
and we use WDSci and have J2EE apps and WebFacing (WDHT)Applications
We won't have a problem paying a fair price for the development tool.
Hopefully there will be an upgrade from RDi to RDi - SOA and from what some
of you are saying it seems EGL warrants another look.
What concerns me is the unknown from IBM on the J2EE components and what
will all be included with RDi-SOA.

There is no WDSC anymore. WDSC is out of marketing and will be out of
support in two years. To get similar functionality, you need RDi-SOA.
The good news is that RDi-SOA will contain EGL, the bad news is that it
might not contain all the other J2EE support.

Joe I didn't include your text because I think you are saying this....I am
just using this text to highlight that I agree that it is bad news.
I really liked the fact that I could do the majority of my development in
one tool. I would hate to have to have RDi and Eclipse and switch between
them.
They already took things like the WebArt designer out of the tool which I
know there is a work around. But if they take away key components or we
have to have both RDi - SOA and RAD then that would be a problem.
So I guess I will have to take this up with IBM to find out what they will
include in the RDi-SOA version and lobby for what we need.

Thanks for all of the good discussion.
