You’re welcome. I’m working at a client site that is fully invested in 5250. Yes, it’s arcane compared to all that fancy GUI interfaces. I can certainly understand everyone’s opinion on it, I kind of fall into that camp as well, we are doing some seriously fancy stuff with 5250 that it’s actually quite fun. We’re interfacing native 5250 screens to work with web browsers when needed (MacOS & Windows) and a properly designed 5250 system with interfaces to web services works quite well. It certainly modernized a lot of workflows.

I’ve been in the “AS400” field for 30+ years and understand how the labor pool is. I’m sure some day when this company is under new ownership, they’ll look at all the 5250 screens and probably come to the same conclusion. That's tomorrow, but not today. :)

Hello Francois,

Imagine if IBM would enhance TN5250 to 32bit (instead of current 16bit) to support full RGB colors, bitmap images, etc.
But, that would mean dusting off the old DDS code from the 1990s, then having a flood of RFEs for DDS...very low prob that will happen

May I ask you kindly to explain your view of relationship between tn5250 and DOS?
