a well-designed 5250 screen smokes their GUI counterpart.

Then you've never seen a good one.

When I go into stores, I’m always pleasantly surprised at how many 5250 screens are still in use as they just work.

Yeah they work, but so does a washing machine from 1950. I have 2 at home from from the 50s and 60s, and yes they work, but I sure would not want to use them every week.

On top of that, it's getting harder to find people who want to maintain a 5250 interface, I'm 41 and want to be done with it. The guy I replaced was 71 and looking to retire, which is fine for him, but bad for the company. It's almost impossible to convince a college age person, or even a little older, that it's great to maintain a 5250 interface.

It did it's job, but it's ran it's course.

It’s really unfortunate the stigma against 5250 sessions. Everyone has their own opinion about it. I actually like it. When it comes to serious data entry, a well-designed 5250 screen smokes their GUI counterpart.

We had to fight the perception that our ERP was running on DOS. We lost. When they decided to do a new ERP, IBM was not even on the long list. Probably 3-4 more years and it's gone where I work.
I have two customer that was told the same. One in 1998, the other in 2005.

They're still on green screen, and also, people won't move from there.

Both ave tried, an miserably failed.

I agree that you won't be selling 5250 software, but you've an hard time removing from where it is still used.
