My biggest problem with Booth's approach (and apparently your too) is that useful and inventive brain power is being used to "advance" a technology that is dead. It is never going to bring a single new user to the platform, and it will not help in retaining existing customers. Yes - that is my opinion but I doubt you'd find many in the industry who would disagree.

Just to be 100% clear on my position. I am NOT saying throw away all 5250. I AM saying that efforts to make them do things they were never intended to do when there are other better ways is a waste of energy.

I know Booth won't agree - but the horse is dead and it is time to stop beating it.

Let's agree on: people like booth and me make sure the horse isn't forgotten and doesn't die from being bored? Okay, maybe that stretches the horse metaphor a bit too much. ;-)

You're appalled by 5250 screens, I'm appealed by them. I believe there's nothing wrong in having different opinions and different points of view. As much as I respect your multi-decade knowledge, please respect other's opinions, too. I don't press you to use 5250, you don't press me to use webby stuff (Klickibunti as we name that in Germany). When it comes to hobbyist use, the B in IBM isn't so much about business anymore. :-)

I guess that matches what Booth's thinking to a good extent?
