How much does RDI cost?
Thomas, there is a lot of passion surrounding RDi. It's expensive, but
you are worth it. Not because you 'deserve' shiny, but because RDi frees
you from much mundane scut work. That's the benefit, the thing you're
paying for: the IDE helps you think in real time more like a programmer
and less like a typist.
Since a list of bullet points / features isn't likely to be all that
interesting, I'm going to avoid that temptation and instead ask you to
do this instead.
1) Join the WDSCI-L list here at midrange dot com.
2) Start a thread like 'I want to give RDi a real shot'.
3) Download the trial - it's like 120 days long now.
There are Two Simple Tricks to using RDi that I try to remind learners
about.
1) RDi is not SEU. SEU is Assembly Language. You tell it everything in
excruciating detail. RDi is RPG. It has infrastructure to help you. Now
since it's pretty much impossible to start using RDi except with your
SEU brain... there'll be some moments of excitement when the streams get
crossed.
2) If something seems frustrating, stop and ask for help. Don't
reinforce those feelings of frustration. A moment away, on our much
loved WDSC list, is an Aha! from someone who has walked that exact mile
in those same shoes.
I'm old. I never went to college. I'm self taught and only barely
self-aware. If I can do this, you can too.
