You are absolutely right that Mr. X is rationalizing. But the
rationalization goes both ways. The "defenses" most people have given

Mr. X's excuses must seem to the folks who defend the RDi status quo.

I can't say I understand IBM pricing, much less rationalise it. If I
were in charge, I'd make RDi cheap and ADTS maintenance expensive -
invert the current pricing scheme, as it were.

factor at all. With cost completely removed, there's always some
other deal killer to fall back on.

It's not easy to get a rise out of you, but it looks like you were
getting there. You're sick and tired of Mr. X's whining. It's
frustrating.

No, I'm not sick and tired of anything. I'm being literally
declarative rather than figuratively demonstrative. I don't see the
Xs of the world as whiners; they have an emotional attachment and only
very gradually have I been able to understand this. They aren't
choosing SEU because it is world class, they are choosing it with
their heart.

You said "there's always some other deal killer to fall back on". My
attitude is: Why not keep chipping away at them?

I'm ill equipped to demolish someone heartstrings. I enter these
threads typically to address differences between 'I heard that...' and
'this is how it is'. I should rethink that, given my inability to see
the difference between emotion and reason.
