I use record format exclusively unless I: 1) Want to wait on ICF I/O 2) Want to read the next record format, whatever it is (multi-format logical) This is an RPG trick that lets me see the unusual circumstance - the read vs. file name stands out to me. It would look very strange to me to see all file names everywhere. But I wouldn't object to having it added to the language after full operational descriptor support... :-) --buck
