Unlike M$, you're not forced to upgrade your skills. Programs written for the System/34 will still run on an 890. In most organizations, IT is seen as a necessary evil and money not spent on IT training, is considered money saved. I must attend 1 to 3 seminars or something like that every year. I have yet, in seven years, been sent to anything devoted to application development other than the Phil and George show at COMMON a few years ago. And getting that was like pulling teeth. Mostly they send me to either management seminars or something to do with NT. I am not a manager and we only have 3 NT servers in our company. It's extremely frustrating. Doesn't it seem odd that companies who can get past the initial high cost of the AS/400 platform because they can see the long-term total cost of ownership (TCO) find it difficult to see the benefit of keeping their IT staff up-to-date in the technology? - Dan Bale (I am *NOT* "Dale" http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200105/msg00281.html ) SAMSA, Inc. 989-790-0507 DBale@SAMSA.com <mailto:DBale@SAMSA.com> Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
