FWIK, a "competent RPG programmer" have to know cycle, where is it better and were not. He might be not using it because he dislike, but being competent mean you know thing, not you ignore. For myself, I came from a bad experience, where cycle (as anything ...) was badly used, so ended up with "aaagggh the cycle, what a mess, don't use it". Then i started to study it, and discover his strength, teach to my co-workers and have them use whenever it's better. Just yesterday, i rewrote a program using Cycle instead of do loop and ended with a half-length source wich was much more readable than the previous one and perform more thing...
