What we do is to give the user a selection of the fields on which they might want to sort and break. In a work file structure we have SORT01, SORT02, BREAK01, BREAK02, and so on. In our OPNQRYF statement we use MAPFLD to map the selected fields to the SORT01, BREAK01..... In the printing program we pass the break and sort field names and only print for the ones selected. We use only 4 levels but you could go to 9. I'd like to see this flexibility in a full procedure read.
