I have to agree here. I just picked up an almost finished program from a programmer that left. The program was broken, in that it was missing a level break. With the cycle, I would have just needed to add one line of code for this break. As the programmer 'rolled her own' I had to figure out what her code meant, and add some lines of code and another variable for this additional break. Five minutes work became half an hours work. It wasn't a hardship in either case, but in my opinion, this job should have used the cycle.
