Personally, I rather see an honest to goodness ODBC client for
RPGIV. If I had that, I could reach out to native and external data
sources for use in my applications. As ODBC uses the SQL interface,
it seems like a no-brainer to me. Dump the SQL precompiler and give
     us ODBC access methods.

Look at your "away from DDS to SQL" comment. Now imagine that the people
that develop SQL believe that RPG is as about as modern as DDS and I think
you will understand.

They (the DB development team) will not be "Focused" on any enhancements
to the native access methods(ie Chain, ReadE, etc).

How RPG works with SQL is, we might say, Not a High Priority thing.
Now, ODBC, JDBC, SQL native functions are a high priority. GUI control
and management (ie Ops Nav, etc) is also high priority.

Remember what Jon said. There are MANY IBM's. It's NOT one company
working together for the betterment of the whole with one clear vision for
the future(for more than a week).

Now, How does DB2 & SQL work with Linux? I bet there is some focus
there(and funding).
