Since this question was asked yesterday I have been trying to remember the guy's name who did the implementation. I think it was Mike or Matt. I know I exchanged emails with him for awhile, but that was like 6 years ago and on company email. Doing simple google searches hasn't produced it so maybe he disbanded it.

Anyway these days I wouldn't do anything like this outside of Python. It's so much easier.

OK, cool. If you do happen to have anything to share about the wrapper
you're talking about, or whatever it is you found that was "like 5
years old", I'd be very interested to hear it, as others probably
would as well.

Even if it's a defunct project, if there are traces of it lying
around, and if it's a good concept, maybe someone can pick it up and
run with it.
