I use network install almost exclusively. It's too easy (once past the
initial learning curve on the command to start it) . there's a good
redpiece on it as well:

Larry,

I finally got back to this and got them added.

chhwres -r virtualio -m Server-9009-42A-SN***** -o a -p Pencor05 Production
-s 80 --rsubtype scsi -a adapter_type=server, remote_lpar_id=4 ,
remote_slot_num=80 chhwres -r virtualio -m Server-9009-42A-SN***** -o a -p
Pencor05 Production -s 81 --rsubtype scsi -a adapter_type=server,
remote_lpar_id=4 , remote_slot_num=81 chhwres -r virtualio -m
Server-9009-42A-SN***** -o a -p Pencor05 Production -s 82 --rsubtype scsi
-a adapter_type=server, remote_lpar_id=4 , remote_slot_num=82

The new resources now created.
CTL30, CTL31, CTL32.

Question.
Which method would you use to load base OS on a brand new partition?

1) Restore from a another LPAR backup.
2)Network install
chsysstate -o on -k manual -m Server-9009-42A-SN***** -n Pencor08 DSLO -i d
-f Pencor08 DSLO -r lpar --ip 10.5.*.* --netmask 255.255.255.0 --gateway
10.5.*.* --serverip 10.5.*.* --serverdir /V7R3OSPTF --duplex auto --mtu 1500
3) Other??

chhwres
-r virtualio
-m <hmc name of your server>
-o a
-p <hame of host partition>
-s <slot number to add>
--rsubtype scsi
-a "adapter_type=server,
remote_lpar_id=<lpar number of guest partition>, remote_slot_num=<slot
number in guest partion>"

Once you have replaced all the <something here> parts, put all of that back
onto one line (e.g. notepad). Note that the HMC Is cAse SenSATive.
Assure there is at least one space in front of each '-' character. Then
paste it into an SSH command line on your HMC.

Instant adapter!!

From WRKHDWRSC *CMN if you use option 7 against the CTLnn resource look
at the digits after the C at the nd of the Location line. THAT is the slot
number of the host adapter. Now look at the configuration of the host in the
virtual adapters section at that slot number.

Most likely the one you used is for some other LPAR # and that's why it
failed to vary on. The slot it references MUST be either for 'any' lpar or
for the specific LPAR referenced (name/number) in your NWSD.

Once the adapters are added to the host either with DLPAR or an IPL
using the new partition you'll get new CTLnns

Yes you would need to IPL the hose partition with the new profile to
create those *CMN resources.

Also how did you create the new NWSDs if there are no *CMN resources to
assign them to??

Simplest at this point is an IPL with the new partition.

However they can be added dynamically too.

Oh THOSE, those are created when the vSCSI adapters are added to the
host partition. Sorry misunderstood that you were just creating more NWSSTG.

So either you need to dynamically ADD the vSCSI Host adapters to the
partition or add them to the profile and IPL with the udpated profile.

No.

Did you ADD the NWSSTG to the NWSD? If you WRKNWSD and option 12 it
need to be in that list.

Also where are you looking? On the client correct? IF you are looking
on the host they do not show up there.
