This afternoon, a query on Stack Overflow got me directed to a JS function key processor that actually seems to work.

(Note that the live demo captures the "1" key in the page's initialization, and so if you want to add a trap for F12 using the "Live Evaluation" area, you'll need to cut and paste a "1," at the very least.

It seems to be much better than anything else I've seen, outside of whatever IceCap does to grab function keys.
