That's one of the reasons I stopped at version 8.6.0. I've gotten used to some of the new interface, but my operators still use the classic interface if they have to move the tape controllers manually. Usually the tape controllers are moved automatically via a CL program issuing commands to the HMC via ssh.

Does the later versions of the HMC not allow moving tape controllers via the chhwres command either? I usually move them with something like:

chhwres -r io --rsubtype slot -m ServerName -o m -p CurrentLpar \
-t TargetLPAR -l 21010010

chhwres -r io --rsubtype slot -m ServerName -o m -p CurrentLpar \
-t TargetLPAR -l 21010018
