There are several reasons an email can be delayed. eMail is not instant messaging. It was never designed to be instantaneous.

1. Remote server too busy
2. Remote server down
3. Remote server reached it quote from a single domain
4. Remote server throttling

These and several other events can cause the initial connection to abort. That is why mail servers have the retries configured.
First retry in 30 minutes is fairly standard practice.
For instance our iSeries is configured for 3 attempts at 30 minute intervals with second level retries are set for 3 at 4 hour intervals.

It really does not matter what your mail server is, if the remote server cannot accept the email at the time you are attempting to send.

Mail routers just off load your local server to the remote server for sending your email, Does not help with any delays.

Subject: RE: Delayed email (sent through QtmmSendMail, either directly or via MMail)

OP is (or seems to be wanting to be) *sending* emails to Gmail email addresses.

I would be looking at the "real" message headers (in outlook they are called "internet headers") for both a delayed and an undelayed email to see if there is any clue there.
