Rob,
AIX == VIOS for fw purposes (AFAIK), I always search for the AIX fw for the
card, download into vios, rpm -ivh --ignoreos somethingsomething.rpm and
then go into the diag to update.

Best Regards,

Roberto

Ok I found a list of fixes. Apparently there's a newer 16519400 to
replace the 15511800 I am trying to get.
However, these fixes are listed only for OS's other than VIOS. I am
trying to update this card from VIOS.

At updates screen I see only rack level updates and not partition level
updates.
I do see something called "SR-IOV Firmware Update"

<snip>
SR-IOV Firmware Update
Update firmware on SR-IOV adapters. The adapter must be in shared mode.
Select an adapter or adapters, right click to get the context menu, and
select the type of firmware update to start. Either the adapter driver
firmware can be updated or both the adapter driver and adapter firmware
can be updated. During the update of the adapter or adapter driver
firmware, configured logical ports on the adapter, will see a temporary
disruption of network traffic. Each adapter can take 2 to 5 minutes to
update. Updates are done serially.
</snip>

But I end up with:
No SR-IOV adapters in shared mode to display.

I need to bring these four up from 14511f00 to 15511800.
How do I do so?

There is an option on the HMC to update the IO firmware.
It will get, from the VIOS, all the devices with their firmware level,
and connect to FixCentral to look at the most recent level.
You can then pick the device you want to update, and it will tell you if
there is an impact or not.
I am at home now and do not remember exactly the menu option to do so,
but, with the Classic interface it is around the same location that you
use for firmware update.
