Tim,
I'm very certain that Crucial (not Crutial) is not the kind of memory you
need. Depending on the age of the machine you are trying to upgrade you
need specific generations of memory which have specific data in their VPD,
non-IBM memory doesn't have that data and usually doesn't work (The Service
Processor or other part of the fw tells you the memory is not for the
machine): I haven't even tried to use oem memory on a POWER server but had
issues with p series memory on i series servers back when they had
different CCINs.
Also, if you are using a POWER8 I would like to see where you find OEM
memory dimms with CENTAUR controllers...

The Power Systems use a double bit parity bit scheme. If you look at
crutial make sure it is for the Power System you have. It is more than
just speed and power consumption. As for the warranty, I know the memory
is not covered by IBM but I do not know if it will cause other issues.

Subject: memory question

Looking into pricing to upgrade our memory on the iseries. VAR has come
back with $1200 for 16gb. We can get crutial for about $180.

What am i missing here? Is the memory created for the iseries
proprietary or something?

Also, if we do use crutial, is there any issue with warranty?
