Kinda agree. Think about when you're doing the IPL or OS upgrade or
whatever. Will you shut down production? If so, then go for it. Otherwise
offloading may be the answer. We used to do that when we had wire making
facilities. We had counters that measure the wire being made and other
shop floor equipment. They updated a dedicated computer (actually I think
we started with a Dec Vax before the PC) then data was transmitted to the
S/36 (then ... then...). I think we used remote data queues.
