Server firmware is EH350_71 & HMC is at v7.7.1 SP 2 with PTFs applied to
HMC. I know the server firmware will be disruptive since I'll have to do
a full system IPL.

Thanks,
Tommy Holden

My two 7310-CR2 HMC's are running V7R7.1.0 and supporting three power 6's.

The 9117 is running 01EM350_085. The 8203 and the 9408 are running
01EL350_085. I am guessing "EH" qualifies as "monster machine". I see
the HMC code level for that firmware at
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/set2/sas/f/power5cm3/ehtablep6.html

Everything I am reading at the link below says your CR3 should be beefy
enough for the job:

What firmware are you coming from? Not sure on "disruptive".
What hmc level are you?
Wait, I reread your email. (Sometimes you confuse me.) You want to
upgrade both your HMC and your firmware to be totally current versus just
applying your server firmware and being partially current. Is that what
you are saying? And, I'm going out on a limb here, you are at 7.7.1 of
hmc code. And, you are at a level of firmware you haven't shared with us
yet. Use the first link to determine if your current level of firmware is

supported by the 7.7.2 of hmc. If so, then upgrade your hmc to 7.7.2
(with appropriate fixes) then upgrade your firmware to the latest version.

See "Minimum HMC Code Level".
