Walden is one I listen to. My comments weren't directed at him but in
response to his comment about other posts that I'm just flat out not
appreciative for. I think that naysayers are either burned at the stake
for heresy or are held up as some sort of oracle. The real answer should
be neither

And my apologies, I've had enough of the supposed oracles - I'd rather
talk to my teenage daughter on one of her bad days. They don't raise my
ire at them just the lack of my mail rules working properly to dump them
to trash...

Contumacious is a word brought up in my 12 step program....... :-)

But one point on your post made me think(it does happen). I've always
felt that certain enhancements weren't being made in the DB because they
weren't ANSI SQLish in nature. Do you find that to be the case
normally?

Doesn't matter. DB2 for i5/OS can't do what other databases do

DB2 for i can't win because the naysayers complain because it HAS
features that other databases don't have - namely the ISAM access that
makes it so blazingly fast. Anybody who knocks ISAM because it's not
"pure SQL" isn't looking at things from an unbiased standpoint, they're
simply picking nits.

It's one thing to ignore opportunities of improvement but it's another
to post like a force of change when it really seems like the posts are
just simply contumacious. These posts are not one bit better than
those
who refuse to look at alternatives. You might want to think so and
hold
those posts as some sort of altruistic discussion but they sure don't
seem to be. And that is the effect that they have on a lot of other
posters. In any discussion you will most likely get these kinds of
diametrically opposed positions but neither is better than the
other....

Contumacious. First time I've needed to look up a non-technical word in

quite some time. Thanks, Mike! But it's a good one: defiant of
authority. I'd also say that some of the posts are designed to raise
the ire of the folks on the list, and that there may even be some sort
of satisfaction gleaned by the poster just out of the heat of the
responses. That's one of the primary reasons I try to stay out of any
opinion-based threads with all but a very few folks whom I respect
highly, such as Walden "Mr. Microsoft" Leverich <grin>. With Walden, I
may not agree but I always learn, because he doesn't trot out the same
tired old argument for every post. And if I'm willing to put in the
time to make a valid point, he's always willing to treat it (and me)
with respect, even if he completely disagrees.
