NO! You do NOT want to do a SAVSYS in library mode but sequential mode.
Make sure the drive is in sequential mode and the tape drive, not
library, is varied on.  Library mode is only used with near line storage
software such as TSM or BRMS.

You do need to treat this as a library and not a tape drive.  There are 
probably 2 more tape devices out there.  Something like TAP07 and 
TAPLIB02. Try this:

Very off tape drive.
Very on tape library
Initialize and load up library with tapes.  For ease of use, create 
different volume names.  It helps to locate which tape object are saved
on!
Save to tape library.
