Kirk, If ASC's product supports converting *AFPDS spool file into PDF then it should be relatively easy to create an overlay to use on the spool file. Note that you'll have to change the spool file type to *AFPDS. Also, final word of warning about "shading" and overlays....if you're talking about shading sets of lines aka "green-bar" or something you may find it difficult to line everything up correctly. Way back when, I set up electronic invoices and wanted to shade every other line so the electronic version would match the pre-printed one be replaced. Using Word and the IBM AFP printer driver to create the overlay was easy, but I could get the shaded lines to be quite the right size or position (this was at 8 LPI). I ended up using the green screen AFP manager(?) license program to create my overlays. The best solution IMHO, for exact overlays are IBM's Infoprint Designer or similar third party program. They are used an a Windows PC. The only problem is the high cost. Lastly, if you want to actually print a *AFPDS spool file to a iSeries printer defined as TYPE(*IPDS) AFP(*YES), the you need to have the PSF/400 license program installed.
