No problem, I probably should have made it clearer.  But given the subject
of the thread I didn't think about doing it.

Did you notice that your phrasing did the same thing?  Your post could lead
one to believe that all you need is a JetDirect to support PJL or SNMP.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone knew what we were thinking instead of just
what we write?   <grin>

BTW: after my last I got to thinking that it was possible that the JetDirect
supports IPP, which would mean that using the *IBMIPPDRV would be an option.
But according to HP's web site neither external 170 supports IPP.
