IBM's BRMS/400 software can save spool files into *SAVF's. These spool file
archive processes can select which spool files are to be archive based on
the following criteria:
Include:
ASP low storage threshold . . . . . . *ARCPCY *ASP, 0-99%, *ARCPCY
Date type for archival . . . . . . . . *ARCPCY *BOTH, *CHANGE, *USE.
Inactivity limit . . . . . . . . . . 7 0-9999 days, *ARCPCY
Object size greater than . . . . . . . *ARCPCY 0-999999 MB, *ARCPCY
Objects able to be freed . . . . . . . *ARCPCY *YES, *NO, *ARCPCY
Retain object description . . . . . *ARCPCY *YES, *NO, *ARCPCY
Objects not able to be freed . . . . . *ARCPCY *YES, *NO, *ARCPCY
Days used (per month) less than. . . . *ARCPCY 0-31, *ARCPCY
Once the spool files are saved in a *SAVF, the BRMS command WRKSPLFBRM
provides an easy to use interface for restoring them too:
Work with Saved Spooled Files (WRKSPLFBRM)
Type choices, press Enter.
Output queue . . . . . . . . . . OUTQ *ALL
Library . . . . . . . . . . . *ALL
Auxiliary storage pool . . . . . ASP *ALL
File . . . . . . . . . . . . . . FILE *ALL
Job name . . . . . . . . . . . . JOB *ALL
User . . . . . . . . . . . . . . USER *ALL
User data . . . . . . . . . . . USRDTA *ALL
Select dates: SLTDATE
From date . . . . . . . . . . *BEGIN
To date . . . . . . . . . . . *END
Save status . . . . . . . . . . SAVSTS *ALL
Sequence option . . . . . . . . SORT *DATE
>From system . . . . . . . . . . FROMSYS *LCL
Output . . . . . . . . . . . . . OUTPUT *
The SAVF's can then be copied to tape on a regular basis without losing the
ability to find any particular file either.
It works pretty good!
