Rick, 96% of the world's computer users are Windows users. Less than 1% are Midrange people. If your assertion is that this should be a general computing forum, that's going to mean wading through 700ish messages to get a single Midrange-related one. If that's the plan, I'm out, I'm gone. I think you'll find that almost everyone here agrees with me on that. Even in the much smaller, much narrower in scope world of the IBM midrange, I don't want to read every single message on every single topic. I only want to read certain topics. When I post a question, I want the people who are experts in that particular topic to help me. I don't want to miss out on the expert advice of someone just because he doesn't want to wade through 100 irrelevant posts to get to something he's interested in. When I search the archives, I want to know where to start. I don't want to have to search the MI list for RPG programming tips, or search WDSCi for information about configuring a printer. Keeping to the topic is a good thing, it helps EVERYONE, even people who aren't subscribed to the lists, since they still have access to the archives. David is not anything like a "police" force. He's very kind and very cool about these things. He has to say something now and then, or the usefulness of Midrange.com will suffer greatly.
