Because a large percentage of people making IT spending decisions have no
technical background, and the folks who are advising them have agendas other
than making the best corporate decisions.

The argument that the majority can't be wrong is repeatedly disproven,
especially in technology.  Listen to the masses, and you get VHS over Beta,
Windows over OS/2.

When will we learn?  It's like our mothers used to ask us: if everyone
jumped off a bridge, would you?  Evidently in IT the answer is "Yes".
