Eric, How about doing a CHGOUTQ on the *OUTQ of where your spool file is going, and putting a Maximum number of pages (MAXPAGES) that you want it to release to the printer. If that size is hit, it will put it as Deferred. It seems you are trying to prevent the large spool file from printing.
