We purchased it from McMaster-Carr. Their part number is 71775K81. It's
made by WinCo. Couldn't find a model number on it but it was listed by
McMaster-Carr as "AUTO. STANDBY GENERATOR-8KW". I'm pretty sure it came
with the auto-switch but am not 100% sure about that. We paid around $4,300
in Nov. 1997.

I really like this setup because don't have to mess with diesel/gasoline.

Thanks Dave,
We're looking to keep about the same equipment up. Do you know the make and
model?

Depends upon what you want to stay up during a power outage. We're a small
shop and bought a natural gas generator (for around $5,000) that handles our
/400 (model 720), phone system, 3 NT servers, several hubs, routers, modems,
and a couple of monitors and a PC. Works great in conjunction with small
battery UPS's. It kicks in 10 seconds or so after the power goes out, so
the battery UPS's keep it up for the initial 10 seconds (until the generator
starts).

We need something that would take over after the UPS.

Would a UPS do ?
Or do you need something that would last longer than say 90 minutes or so ?

We are considering some kind of backup power solution, like a generator, to
keep our AS/400 up in the event of a power outage in our area. Does anybody
have any insight, recommendations, experiences, etc? Any info is
appreciated. Thanks.
