This is one of the small boxes -- the 7117 expansion unit is a bolt-on feature
which doubles the width of the box but is not like a separate tower.  It uses a
ribbon cable to go between the two halves.  To my knowlege there are no optical
connectors period.  And my office was vacant during my absence (I think <g>), so
I doubt anything got physically damaged.  Excepting things like drive stiction,
which has not been entirely ruled out.
