Kirk,

Slot K1? Nothing is labeled that on my 40S-2109. The 6502 is in "Location 1",
the first slot in the 7117 expansion chassis.

I'm still not sure where K1 is -- if it's "Location 1", then pulling it means
removing the 6502 and I'm quite sure none of the drives will work. <g>

I did pull the 6502 and reseat it, and am trying another IPL as I type this.

The eight drives in the 7117 expansion are in "Location 10" through "Location
17". The label for the jumper settings refers to them as "Storage Unit 10"
through "Storage Unit 17". These are the rail mount versions -- not the drive
cages used by the 5xx, etc.

That must be why I don't have one... :(

Is the manual model specific? Which CD is it on? I don't remember a hardware
manual CD which came with the 270 which I just installed at a client. Or is it
on the same CD's as the regular softcopy stuff? Might it be on the CD's which
just came with my V4R5 order? That would be great.

*** News Flash ***

Since removing and reseating the 6502, it now reports only 1 drive as bad and my
RAID set in exposed mode. The reference code on the 6502 has changed to 9030.

I'm going to power down and tap the identified drive to try to free a potential
stiction problem. I had previously done that to each of the units while still
installed, but this one will get additional handling now.

Even if it comes up, I'll slate the drive for replacement and exchange it for
another 6606 drive sitting on the shelf for just these kind of situations.

*** Later ***

Sigh. I'm back to all 8 drives reported as missing. But now the service action
log is showing some additional SRCs besides the 65023110. I now also have a
65029051, a 65029022, a 6606FFF6 with a resource name of a different drive than
identified above, a 6606FFF4 for the same drive as the FFF6, and 6606FFF4
without a resource name.

I'm off to check my V4R5 CD's to see if it has SY44-5956 on it.
