Not necessarily.  We have baluns that use pins 4&5 and ones that use pins
3&6, and although we don't have any, they also makes ones that use pins

Twinax Balen's use the center pair of wires.  Same as phone Tip and Ring.

In 6 pin connectors, it's pins 3 and 4, in 8 pin connectors it's 4 and 5.

They are polarity sensitive, but unfortunately there is no standard on what
the
polarity is.  It is very possible, and common, to get balens from two
different
manufacturers with different polarity.  So, you need to make sure you use
the
same polarity type with the same polarity type (one balen on each end of
the
pair, connected to the device and to your AS/400).  Since you already have
a set of balens, this shouldn't be a problem.
