George is correct, but reality is also a factor.  We had the same issue and resolved it by creating a routine that nightly reads all status 40 orders and checks to see that quantity received equals original order quantity.  If this is the case, we set the order to status 55 and then they go away.  Notice that I said status 40 - we have opted not to track labor so we never see any status 45 orders.  The concept could probably be adapted to your situation .

In a perfect world, every work order reaches status 55.  I don't live in a perfect world - approximately 0% of our MO's ever reach status 55, and we don't have the manpower to go back and "pretty up" the MOs so they are at status 55!  So they are manually closed, one by one - usually sitting at status 45.

Er, ah, I may not understand everything here, but orders can be selected by
date if labor and material are complete (status 55).  This is a simple
process, and is designed to ensure that all data has been entered before the
order is closed.
