Now, now. This is the EGL list. It's a place to discuss the technical issues of EGL in conjunction with the i, not claim that it's unusable by RPG programmers. Defending EGL on the EGL list s hardly akin to getting on the Microsoft forums and launching into the joys of Linux <grin>.

Not to put words in Jon's mouth, but he was simply commenting on the difficulty in unwinding the stack trace. At least that was the way I read it.
I gently disagree, Pete. Jon has a long history of saying that Java is too hard for RPG programmers, and more recently that EGL is too hard for RPG programmers. When challenged, he drops back to his "No really, some of my best friends program in EGL, it's just that I have concerns" speech, but that doesn't change the fact that he seems to find it necessary to state publicly on the EGL listy that most RPG programmers can't handle it.

I categorically rebut that statement, and in fact say that EGL is the next best language for RPG programmers - the language is procedural, the data specifications are business-oriented, and the language is simple and easy to use.

And let's be honest, it's rather rare that you need to look at a stack trace. Typically it happens when you've done something outside the box. I won't say that being comfortable with Java doesn't help, but it's hardly the level of "if you're not a Java expert you can't use the tool" and that's always the implication from one of Jon's posts - that most RPG programmers don't have the skills to handle this here new-fangled horseless language. <smile>
