Re: cache battery expiration

Again then back to my original question.

Is the timer reset when the IOA detects that the battery pack was removed for 15sec/2min or is the timer reset manually by the CE?

PS: Slightly unrelated but......in order for a 720 to "sense" that a UPS cable has been plugged into the back of the machine all AC power must be removed from the machine fro at least three minutes.

I can't even think about arguing with that. 2 min. seems like best
practice to me. The IBM document I looked
at said at least 15 seconds but it's from the v5r2 infocenter document for
2748 to 5708 cards.

Note: When replacing the cache battery pack, the battery must be
disconnected for at least 15 seconds before connecting the new battery.
This is the minimum amount of time needed for the card to recognize that
the battery has been replaced.

I have a document .... somewhere ..... that says 2 minutes. As far as I
recall it was for all batteries. The IOA needs to see that there is no
battery attached. I do know if I follow the 2 minute rule I've never
been burned. :-)

Larry, I'm curious.
Where did you get the 2 minute requisite power off?
Everything I read seem to say 15 seconds. Is that
something new or only for 520's?
I thought once the start IOA was done it would reset.
Again, learning something new and want to know.
