I’m not suggesting that anyone is lying. I don’t have any evidence whatsoever that CGI on the IBM i is worse than node on the IBM i. I have anecdotal evidence that CGI on the IBM i runs fast. Several people have said that. I believe them.
Perhaps I have misinterpreted, but I heard some people in this discussion suggest that COBOL (via CGI?) will be as fast or faster because COBOL is native/compiled—which led me to ask if node on the IBM i uses the V8 engine to compile to machine language. I bet node on the IBM i *does* use the V8 engine to compile JavaScript to machine language. But this is one reason why I’m a little hesitant to rely solely on anecdotal observations. It seems CGI is being claimed as equally fast as node when knowledge/experience with node is much less than knowledge/experience with CGI.
The following are not rhetorical questions. I would genuinely appreciate hearing from you (on list or off list).
· Is anyone using CGI on IBM i for very high volumes of concurrent requests similar to, say, Walmart, eBay, PayPal, Amazon Brand Stores, or Netflix?
· Has anyone used both CGI and node on the IBM i and can speak anecdotally to comparisons between the two?
Thanks,
