Hi Bradley,

People don't choose node for performance. Not saying it's poor
performance. They choose it because maybe all they can find are Node
Programmers, or they're locked into using OSS for one reason or another.

I just don’t think that’s right. Node is new. You can certainly find as many Java developers, PHP developers and maybe even .NET developers as you can find node developers. Companies like Walmart did not switch from Java to node because they were locked into using anything. They actually quit Java to switch to node. They chose node for performance and because they felt they could get solutions into production more quickly.

I think other companies choose node for similar reasons.

Facebook has *not* adopted node because of their legacy PHP code base. But they started compiling their PHP into C, then finally created their own PHP-based language called Hack. Hack runs in HHVM. Facebook also created an extension of JavaScript called JSX for their React UIs. So here is a company that avoided node because they wanted to keep their PHP legacy, but look at how far they have had to go to get the performance and UIs they wanted while keeping their PHP legacy.

Thanks,
