I've used NetBeans a little for an IDE - I'm not that familiar with it,
but it is free, as I recall.

I also highly recommend getting the Firebug plugin for Firebox - there's
a developer here who is quite expert in web stuff, and he does his
coding in a text editor, then tries it with Firefox, then changes things
in Firebug to see what happens. Very powerful combination.

There's also the HTML Validator plugin that can be very helpful, in my
experience.

I am ashamed to admit that I have done very little JavaScript
