Personally for some of these things I just find it easier to select the code view and make the change. No wait time - not like in the Code/400 days!

Ok, was hoping for a bit more smarts...

Especially given the distinction between absolute/relative when creating

No biggie, I got it changed.

Ok, that's the same properties tab I already had open...

Do you actually have something that indicates absolute vs relative?

Or is it just a matter of SPACEx vs SKIPx?

When you change from absolute to relative, do the fields defined with
line#
reorder and get a SPACEx?

SPACEx at the record format level makes it a relative-positioned
record format. You would have to change the fields in the record format
separately in order to remove absolute positioning of a field. This can
also be done in the Properties view. Reordering is a manual (drag-n-drop)
process. Note that part of a record format can be absolutely positioned
while another part of the same record format is relatively positioned --
or vice versa.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
