I knew you'd see this, and I'm glad you responded. Your points are well-taken and worth considering. Profound UI does give RPG developers the ability to work with web output with standard op-codes - best of both worlds, perhaps.

Vern,

Expensive is a pretty relative term. Compared to free, everything is expensive. :)

The difference there is, in order to use CGIDEV2 effectively, the developer MUST learn HTML and Javascript. With tools like ProfoundUI, we have taken care of the HTML and Javascript for you and you can concentrate on developing your business application instead of wasting days working out browser compatability issues and the like.

Not that I am saying I dislike CGIDEV2. I think it is a good tool. I have used it myself an many occasions. But the price of a commercial tool can often be less than the cost of the time spent learning the complexities of web development.

Profound UI is a good tool - and expensive. If you want something that
is free, take a look at CGIDEV2 - google it - there are even some
frameworks around it that can help make development easier for web
interfaces.

You might post on the HTML list here at midrange.com - they'll give you
lots of good advice - maybe more than you might want!! :)

Hi,

in my opinion this is the one and only solution if you want to stay at RPG.

Betreff: [WDSCI-L] Modernizing

I am an old time RPG programmer and am currently using Webfacing for their
web development. Although this has been a pretty good tool for us, it has
its limitations. I am looking for some advice on what would be the best
tools to use to modernize their web development. I currently have RBD and
have some minor experience at Java. I do like the RPG language and would
like to continue to incorporate this in my web development.

Any advice?
